Facebook was trading down 1. The state actions, like inquiries at the Federal level announced earlier this year, and actions by the European Union, are likely to be the "new normal" for companies for the foreseeable future, according to some sell-side observers, but it seems there's little actual impact the actions can have in terms of breaking up companies or imposing strong regulations. As Pachter sees it, antitrust only refers to "pecuniary" harm to consumers, such as imposing higher prices. Facebook doesn't charge consumers anything, and so it would be hard to show such harm. We understand that if we stop innovating, people can easily leave our platform. A backdoor way to show that both Facebook and Google harm consumers would be to demonstrate that their control of advertising markets, and prices of ads, harms consumers indirectly. But Pachter insists such efforts would run into trouble with the U. And, anyway, "Facebook can say, we are not selling ads to NY advertisers, these are global ad contracts," so that there isn't really a local product to regulate.

It did not go well. With an ever-increasing number of business pulling advertising dollars from Facebook as part the StopHateForProfit boycott, the social media behemoth's COO, Sheryl Sandberg, announced Tuesday the "need to take action. So claims a scathing blog post published by Free Press following the meeting. They allow white supremacist groups and hate groups to gather and recruit. We should expect more from a company like Facebook. At issue is Facebook's continued profiting off of white supremacy. As BuzzFeed News reported last week, Facebook has been for months taking money to run ads promoting racism and civil war. We reached out to Facebook for a response to Free Press' claims, but received no immediate response. We'd say maybe the company is too busy taking action to respond, but from all outward appearances that doesn't appear to be true.
The decision comes after several other companies -- including Intel , Qualcomm , and ARM Holdings -- cut ties with Huawei amid the Trump Administration's escalating war against the Chinese tech giant. In mid-May, the Trump Administration placed Huawei on an "entity list" of companies that are barred from buying American technologies without the government's approval. The ban on Huawei was suspended for 90 days to allow companies to fulfill security and contractual obligations, but Huawei could still be permanently cut off from American technologies if a trade deal isn't reached. Facebook's decision to stop Huawei from pre-installing its apps initially sounds important, but it's ultimately toothless when you consider a few key issues.
