Dana Boulos is the talented director behind a new short film, entitled Cam Girl, that Autre has premiered exclusively online. Written by Jesy Odio, Cam Girl explores the vague border between our private lives and our proposed private lives. Cam Girl also reconnoiters our need to constantly communicate and digitally catalogue our lives. Autre: Where did you grow up and did you always know that you wanted to enter the creative fields? As a child I wanted to be an artist. I knew I would fall into a creative field I just didn't know which one. Boulos: It definitely came from my Family, especially my grandma.

A few years ago, when Isa Mazzei was working as a camgirl, she decided that she had finally had enough of hearing every shitty stereotype of sex workers under the sun. I realised that the representation of sex workers in the media was more than just an annoyance. It was affecting my life and the lives of other sex workers in dangerous and violent ways. While Isa used her own experiences to create the character of Lola, she felt like she had more to say without the protective guise of writing fiction. Over webcam of course , we speak to Isa about how she became a camgirl, how sex work let her reclaim her body and how writing allowed her to process her trauma. Morning, Isa!

Webcamming — a profession for some, a side job for others, and stigmatized by many. But why? A quick google search brings up multitudes of websites to watch camgirls, but hardly anything exists about them or their profession. I have the unique advantage of knowing a camgirl quite personally, and she was gracious enough to agree to an interview. The thing is, i had high hopes for this article; i wanted to include stats, links, references, heck — maybe even a table or two. But i found exactly… nothing, and that was more shocking to me than the fact that many people have turned to camming as their profession. Maybe you rely on this income for all of your living expenses, and enjoy some of the perks of the job on the side, like getting stuff sent to you free of charge by your admirers. In the spectrum of sex-positivity, camgirls seem to get lost in the folds.
Isa Mazzei's new memoir, "Camgirl" is one that you won't quickly forget. I first became familiar with Mazzei after "Cam" , her movie with Daniel Goldhaber, began streaming on Netflix. It's a psychological horror film about Alice Madeline Brewer , a camgirl who gets locked out of her account, and realizes that a lookalike fake is now running her show. It's a well-paced film with some delightful twists and a knock-out performance from Brewer. Sadly, it's one of the few films I've seen that gives a sex worker agency and respect. Mazzei wrote the script based partly on her own experience as a camgirl. After watching, I found myself wanting to know more about her. Why did she get into camming? What was her IRL experience like?
